Top 5 Time Management Tips

Here is the latest post from our weekly guest blogger, Anastasiya Day – online entrepreneur and founder of AD Virtual Assistance Ltd:

Recently I asked the question: “Would you like me to write an article on any specific topics?” and I received a lot of responses to this question.  So today’s post will be about Time Management.

Time management is one of those skills that is starting to be accepted as an essential in business studies with many colleges. Time management is essential not only in business but also in our everyday life. It is important to know how to manage and organize our days, work, studies etc and if you don’t know how to do it, you could end up wasting and losing a lot of valuable time.

Here are my 5 tips to help you to stay on top of things:

1 ~ To do list
It is so important to have a daily to do list. When you start your day, take a few minutes to write down what you would like to achieve during the day. Your to do list will help you to concentrate on these things and you will get more done!

2 ~ Know when you work best
We are all very different and therefore we need to find the most suitable time for us to accomplish our tasks. I am a morning person and therefore I try to schedule things so that I work in the morning, when I am the most productive. You can discover your best time by monitoring your productivity over a period of time. Then you need to manage your schedule to keep your best time free for your most important work.

3 ~ Make it easy to get started
Most people don’t have problems with finishing projects; they most likely have problems starting them. We are all very busy in business or at home and on a daily basis we have our routine, therefore visually we know what we need to accomplish, how much time we need to spend etc and that’s why a lot of people don’t even want to start these projects or tasks. But we know that these projects and tasks should be completed. The solution for this is to break your projects into several parts, so that you are not overwhelmed by them and can manage them more comfortably.
From the beginning of your project if you know that you still have 4 weeks to complete the project, you could put this on your to do list and every single day do a small part of this project. And you will finish it on time!

4 ~ Postpone unnecessary activities until the work is done!
Always prioritize your work, in the morning think what is urgent, what is important and what you can do later. This can be the most difficult challenge of time management. But it is so important that you finish your priority work first. That’s where your to do list will help you to achieve throughout the day.

5 ~ Organise and schedule time for emails
When you sit down at your computer, what’s the first thing you do? For many of us, it’s checking emails. And it is very easy to get involved in replying to all of them without noticing that it’s lunch-time and you’ve not really accomplished anything.

Here you have 2 options:
First option – you can always outsource your work, a Virtual Assistant will be able to minimize your workload.
Second option – if you find yourself checking emails whenever you’re stuck or procrastinating, then set yourself a time limit to read and reply. For example, you could try dealing with emails at 10am and 3pm.
